OnePlus 8 Lite: specs, rumors, leaks and everything you need to know

You can rule out the idea that OnePlus will launch in a cheaper space, but with some huge leaks suggesting that there is a OnePlus 8 Lite on the cards, that's what might be about to happen. The device is also known as OnePlus Z.

OnePlus found fame by offering iconic specs at hard-to-beat prices. But in 2019 it changed direction, offering the OnePlus 7 Pro and moving to a higher price level. While still continuing the strong sub-flagship offering, it appears the company will expand its offering at a lower price.

Here is everything we know so far about OnePlus 8 Lite or OnePlus Z.

OnePlus 8 Lite release date and price

There have been a couple of substantial leaks for the OnePlus 8 Lite and that has provided us with rough details. That puts the size of the phone close to the OnePlus 7T in terms of height and width, although it's a bit thicker.

The back panel is said to be glass, with curved edges to the sides, but with the overall flat front display, with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5. A USB-C port is located at the bottom, but no signal A 3.5mm headphone jack, often common in more affordable devices.

Most important of the design is the pronounced camera housing on the back. This is on the left side and appears to be following the trend now established by the iPhone 11 Pro , making the numerous lenses prominent rather than trying to hide them in design. It appears to also retain the mute slider, that hallmark of OnePlus devices that stay in place.

A leaked specification sheet suggests an IP53 water protection rating.

The leaked specs have provided us with some details about OnePlus 8 Lite. It is said to have a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels with a refresh rate of 90Hz.

However, one thing we are pretty sure of is the 90Hz screen. At the launch of the OnePlus 7T, Carl Pei said on stage that OnePlus would not return at slower update speeds . We hope that's the OnePlus 8 Lite's unique selling point - that fast update speed on a mid-range phone. This detail has also been confirmed by Ishan Agarwal, a Twitter filter with a good record.

It looks like OnePlus could be making this a more affordable model with MediaTek. The Dimensity 1000 is a 5G SoC, so this could be an affordable 5G phone, but it's notable as a deviation from Qualcomm that OnePlus has used in the past. There are rumored to be 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage, so there are still some impressive specs here, though we suspect it will offer the 6GB option as well.

There is no fingerprint scanner, so you probably use an on-screen scanner , most likely using optical scanning technology.

OnePlus 8 Lite cameras

An interesting detail is the perforating front camera, which means there are no notches or pop-ups. This is a bit of a change in direction for OnePlus, but it's also rumored for OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. Leaked specs suggest it's a 32-megapixel sensor.

As for the number of cameras in the rear, we have a conflict in the leaks. The images show two cameras and the flash in the housing, while the leaked spec sheets suggest that there are three cameras on the back. These rear cameras are suggested as main 48-megapixel, 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle, and 12-megapixel telephoto, f / 1.7, f / 2.2, and f / 2.4 respectively.

We're not sure exactly what the settings will be here, but again, OnePlus is likely to control the price of this device.
